In the aftermath of the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman
Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida that tragically claimed the
lives of at least 17 people, the American people have been asking
themselves “what went wrong?”
The U.S. media have been focusing almost entirely on the weapons
possessed by Nikolas Cruz, the perpetrator who confessed to authorities
about carrying out the atrocity. It has spent countless hours debating
what firearms should be restricted from law-abiding Americans in order
to hypothetically prevent such mass shootings from occurring again.
At a CNN townhall dedicated to airing out grievances about mass shootings such as at Parkland, however, Sheriff Steve Israel pressed addressed
questions about why the FBI failed to follow up on reports that Cruz
has been making threats on social media, especially Youtube. Cruz
reportedly said he wanted to be a “professional school shooter.”
